Activity 9Digital Communication Newsroom Challenge

Step 1: Form Groups

  • Join a small group with your classmates.
  • In your group, choose a digital communication medium, such as a website, social media platform, blog, podcast, or online video channel.

Step 2: Understand the Scenario

  • Imagine that you are part of a newsroom team responsible for improving communication effectiveness on your assigned platform.
  • Your goal is to create engaging and effective content following specific communication strategies, including the use of subheadings, simple words, logical and concise presentation, stories, analogies, visuals, and quotes.

Step 3: Research and Plan

  • Conduct research on best practices for communication on your assigned platform.
  • Explore how to incorporate the provided communication strategies effectively.
  • Brainstorm ideas for your role play and how you will showcase your communication improvements.

Step 4: Prepare the Role Play

  • Decide the roles and responsibilities for each group member.
  • Script and rehearse your role play, incorporating scenarios like team meetings, brainstorming sessions, content creation, and user interactions.

Step 5: Present the Role Play

  • Get creative with your role play! Use fictional user interactions and show how you overcome common communication challenges.
  • Make it engaging and enjoyable for your audience.

Homework Assignment (Analogies in Everyday Conversations):

  1. Think of three common objects or concepts encountered in daily life.
  2. Write down each object/concept at the top of a separate sheet of paper or in a digital document.
  3. Create at least two analogies for each object/concept, relating it to something else to illustrate its characteristics, function, or importance.
  4. Be creative and ensure the analogies are easy to understand and make sense.
  5. Optionally, use drawings or visuals alongside your analogies to enhance understanding.

 

1. Prepare a short speech (3-5 minutes) with an analogy as an attention getter (you can use one of the analogies you created in the exercise before

2. Then, transition into the main content of your presentation

3. You can use additional analogies or storytelling techniques throughout your speech to make your points clearer and more engaging.
