From fashion to technology, entertainment to social media, we're about to embark on a thrilling journey through the ever-changing landscape of trends. So buckle up, keep your eyes wide open, and get ready to ride the wave of what's hot, what's cool, and what's shaping the world we live in. Welcome to the trend revolution!

Let's start off by sharing one piece of technology that you couldn't live without. It can be anything from your smartphone to your favorite app, or even a piece of software that makes your life easier. Bonus points if you can explain why it's so important to you!

                                By the end of this lesson, we will be able to:

  • Talk about consumer and tecnhological trends

                                      Activity 1: Grammar and Vocabulary                          

Instructions: Spin both wheels. Answer the questions giving as much information as possible and using as much as you can the verb tense you got.

                                                       Activity 1: Warm up                                                  

What are trends?

  • What happened in the video? Can you identify some of those events?
  • The video is dedicated to "everyone that sees not what the world is but what it can be". What does it mean?
  • Why is change important for humankind? Do you think trends can make us better human beings?

                                     Activity 2: "Trendspotting"

Steps:

  1. Think of one trend that you have noticed recently. It could be a fashion trend, a popular social media challenge, a slang word, a viral video, or anything else that you consider to be a trend.

  2. In your group, each participant will take turns sharing their chosen trend, explaining what it is and why you think it has become popular.

  3. After one participant shares their trend, provide your thoughts and opinions on the trend.

 

                                     Activity 3: Technology Trends                                     

In your group, share and discuss what you know about each of the trends in the infographic below. 

If none of you know what it is, research on it (you can google them)

                                     Activity 3: Vocabulary                                       

1. Watch this video.

2. Then, complete this JamboardLinks to an external site. about Vocabulary exercises from the book. 

 

                                     Activity 4: Brainstorm Words                                       

1. Flip a card from the deck and read the word outloud. 

2. Start the timer and mention as many words as you can that come to mind when you think about this word without stopping the flow

Important Note! This is a brainstorming exercise, so there is only one rule. All ideas matter and all ideas are important.

Time: 15 minutes

 

                                     Activity 5: Agree or Disagree                                      

Instructions: 

1. In pairs, complete the following sentences describing trends. Use your own ideas!

2. Compare your answers with other classmates. Use the "Agreement and Disagreement" vocabulary to guide your conversation.

 

Time: 5 minutes to complete the sentences. 10 minutes to compare with other classmates.

Homework (optional)

  1. Choose a specific trend that interests you. It can be related to artificial intelligence, virtual reality, blockchain, cybersecurity, Internet of Things (IoT), or any other emerging field of technology.

  2. Conduct research to gather information about the chosen trend. Consider the following aspects:

    • What is the trend and its key features?
    • How has it evolved over time?
    • What are its potential applications in different industries or sectors?
    • What are the benefits and challenges associated with this trend?
    • Are there any ethical or societal implications to consider?
  3. Optional: Create a visual element to accompany your report, such as an infographic or a PowerPoint presentation, to help visually communicate your research findings. (Suggestion: Use CanvaLinks to an external site. for infographic designs)
